A piece of fake news disinforms about detention of a Lithuanian servicemember in Poland

Lithuanian news organisations have received a piece of fake news about a Lithuanian officer allegedly arrested in Poland. The fake piece of news states that “the Polish Internal Security Agency detained an officer of the Lithuanian Armed Forces , Antanas K., suspect of spying on behalf of Lithuania” (in grammatically incorrect Lithuanian).


The piece has the main traits of fake news: broken Lithuanian it is written in, the typical way of sending fake news it had arrived at the Lithuania media by – from an imitation of the Polish Internal Security Agency e-mail address. This piece of fake news was first spotted at in German.
