On August 21 Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European & Eurasian Affairs at US Department of State Michael J. Murphy paid a visit to the ministry of National Defence. He was welcomed by Vice Ministers of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas and Giedrimas Jeglinskas.
The officials discussed Lithuanian-US bilateral cooperation, joint procurement, results of the most recent NATO Summit, also, the situation of air defence in the Baltic Sea region, Lithuania’ s defence priorities, and efforts to strengthen national security.
Vice Ministers underscored the importance of the US-Lithuanian cooperation and reiterated to the US representatives that the United States was Lithuania’s key strategic partner. Lithuania is highly grateful to the US for the support in terms of joint exercises, financial assistance, and support in strengthening Lithuania’s defence capabilities.
In his turn, M. Murphy praised Lithuania for increasing its defence budget.
The meeting officials also exchanged view on further steps in increasing the Allied security in the Baltic states.
