Lithuania is continuing assistance to Ukraine’s defence reform, Minister of National Defence A. Anušauskas says
Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas and Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Lithuania HE Volodymyr Yatsenkivskyi discussed bilateral defence cooperation of the two countries, participation of Ukraine in multilateral cybersecurity projects, as well as other initiatives, and exchanged views on the security situation in the region, at a meeting today, January 28.
“The new Government pays great regard to the reforms in Ukraine. Despite serious challenges, we observe positive change coming from the implementation of the reform. Our support will be continued and expanded,” said Minister of National Defence A. Anušauskas.
Ukrainian Ambassador Yatsenkivskyi stressed that Ukraine would maintain the pace of reforms and resolutely pursue membership in NATO and the European Union. „This is a key priority that is enshrined in the Ukrainian Constitution,“ the Ambassador said at the meeting. He thanked Lithuania for continued political support for Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration aspirations, as well as for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
Minister of National Defence A. Anušauskas underscored the need to enhance security and stability in our region. Shady military activities in the neighbourhood of Lithuania and Ukraine raise concerns. Minister underlined that both countries could strengthen bilateral cooperation in that area.
It was agreed to continue bilateral consultations on relevant issues of bilateral cooperation and regional security.
