From now on, all visitors to friendly Vilnius will see impressively large historical flags of the state of Lithuania. The flags, which are 6 m long and 3.33 m wide (as many as 11 times larger than traditional flags!) will be raised near the main entrances to the city: Vilnius – Panevėžys, Vilnius – Varėna, Vilnius – Kaunas, Vilnius – Minskas and near the Airport.
“Vytis is a dashing and brave rider signifying the resolve, fighting efficiency and important victories of Lithuania and its people. Now, Vytis will meet everyone coming to Vilnius. Let Vytis be an inspiration and a reminder that in the future there will be new victories and achievements of our country and that by working together, we can achieve more than individually. Let us celebrate free Lithuania today!” says Remigijus Šimašius, Mayor of Vilnius.
Vytis flags on 20 m high flagpoles will be illuminated to make them visible from far away during night time. From now on, the flags of 11 March will always be raised next to the entrances to the city.
At the beginning of the year, during the celebration of the centenary of restored Lithuania, five border signs and the new welcoming inscription VILNIUS loves YOU! shone with the colours of the Tricolour. Such border signs decorate the main entrances to the city: Vilnius – Panevėžys, Vilnius – Varėna, Vilnius – Kaunas, Vilnius – Minskas and Vilnius – Trakai.
