Spartan cargo aircraft of the Lithuanian Air Force takes humanitarian assistance to Armenia, Moldova and Georgia

In the morning of May 14 the Spartan tactical transport aircraft of the Lithuanian Armed Forces left for Armenia, Moldova and Georgia from Šiauliai Lithuanian Air Force Base. The flight takes to the countries humanitarian assistance, namely, protective equipment items manufactured in Lithuania for tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.

The flight opportunity was also availed of to return home military personnel of Armenia, Georgia and Moldova who were not able to go back after having finished studies at the Gen Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania, and also for a group of dual Lithuania-Georgian and Lithuanian-Armenian citizens. The Lithuanian Air Force aircraft will repatriate Lithuanian citizens from Armenia and Georgia on its way back to Lithuania at the request of the Ministry Foreign Affairs.

The flight is conducted as the humanitarian assistance to Eastern Partnership countries agreed to by the Government of Lithuania in a resolution of April 22 in response to their requests to assist with COVID-19 mitigation. Yesterday evening, May 13, a humanitarian aid shipment also left for Ukraine by land transport.

The Spartan aircraft carries out today the fourth flight in total to render assistance to civilian institutions in countering the coronavirus.
