On the background of the numerous events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the re-establishment of the State of Lithuania spectacle “Mindaugas” will stand out with its bold and unconventional staging, taking the audience back in time to the period of the Grand Duke Mindaugas life.
Dark and long, almost ground reaching stage costumes of the actors, modern, graceful dance moves, heart fluttering music as well as monumental 3D image projections providing extra weight and strength to the performance will create the exceptional spectacle that will take place on February 15th in the Lithuanian Russian Drama Theatre.
According to the director of the spectacle, choreographer, the founder of the Baltic Ballet Theater, Marija Simona Šimulynaitė, bright and imposing figure of Mindaugas in the masterly written literary work by Justinas Marcinkevičiaus from school times raised the awareness of the younger generation and fostered feelings of patriotism.
“What hurt fifty years ago and is described by our literature classic is also relevant nowadays, therefore the mission of this project is to inspire young people and remind them that there is no need to adapt to the current situation, because everything is in their power and depends on their unity. I strongly belevieve that the modern generation that is so open to innovation will maintain the historical awareness, will have the courage to take action to change the country and fight for their ideas, as did our predecessor Grand Duke Mindaugas”, – said the director of the spectacle.
A team of talented actors was gathered and impressive visual effects employed to make the spectacle that aims to knock on the hearts of a younger generation. Performers from the Juozas Miltinis Drama Theater and The National Kaunas Drama Theatre were gathered for the performance. The project also features professional ballet dancers from the Baltic Ballet Theatre. Interestingly, during the spectacle “Mindaugas” everyone on the stage will become equal dancers-actors, so there were challenges in building such performance, however the result surpassed the expectations.
Artist Rimas Sakalauskas promises to conquer the audience’s attention by spectacular video projections on the stage – surrealistic projections reflecting the dissolution of consciousness will reveal strong emotional experiences and inner struggle of Grand Duke Mindaugas.
Music composer Mykolas Natalevičius took on a task to suggestively uncover the epoch of Grand Duke Mindaugas and characterize the heroes of our nations past. He will combine folk and electronic organ music into a harmonious unity of sounds.
The performance was already “tested” on the 6th of July last year, during the King Mindaugas Coronation Day at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. Spectacle that received such a lot of positive feedback and praises will be performed again on the 100th anniversary of the re-establishment of the State in the Lithuanian Russian Drama Theatre, where, according to the director M. S. Šimulynaitė a closer contact with the audience can be achieved and spectators will definitely have a chance to awaken a fighter and unifier of the nation Mindaugas in their hearts!
