Strong transatlantic bonds are the essence and foundation of NATO, Minister of National Defence R. Karoblis says
Strong transatlantic bonds are the essence and foundation of NATO. I am certain that the upcoming NATO Leaders Meeting in London will reiterate that there is and can be no alternative to the Alliance. NATO has faced numerous challenges over the 70 years of existence, therefore the latest one – to adapt to the changed global security situation successfully – the Allies will manage to meet by respecting our commitments, seeing the threats the same way, and spending adequately on the fight against the threats,” Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis said on November 14 at the Road to the 2019 NATO Leaders Meeting Conference in Washington.
Minister underscored in his address that Russia presented one of the biggest threats of the present day, however, the role of China had to be taken seriously in the long-term because its growing economic power, investments into critical infrastructure and ambitions were a concern to the Allies.
Minister R. Karoblis also met with members of the U.S. Congress Mike Conaway, Ruben Gallego an Marsha Blackburn and was given assurance of the comprehensive U.S. support to Lithuania’s security while in Washington.
Minister of National Defence R. Karoblis also delivered the keynote address in one of the panels on a stronger NATO defence and deterrence at the NATO-Industry Forum in Washington. According to Minister, the NATO adaptation which started in 2014 was not complete and decision-making as well as readiness of forces still needed to be accelerated.
