President Dalia Grybauskaitė together with other leaders of European countries, representatives of NATO and the EU attends the inauguration ceremony of President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine.
After the inauguration, a bilateral meeting between President Grybauskaitė and President Zelensky is scheduled. Strengthening of bilateral relations, geopolitical challenges, as well as security situation and Ukraine’s cooperation with the EU and NATO, will be discussed during the meeting.
The President emphasized that Lithuania is a consistent and determined supporter of the people of Ukraine that firmly backs the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and provides Ukraine with full support, both at the state level and through active civil society efforts.
Extremely high credibility mandate expressed by the Ukrainian people during the elections is a very strong obligation for the new President to work responsibly for the welfare of his country and mobilize public support for the continuity of vital reforms, said President Grybauskaitė.
According to the President, the people of Ukraine have expressed a strong desire to live in a European state with European standards of democracy, the rule of law, transparency and human rights. It is, therefore, crucial to counter corruption, ensure transparency of public authorities, judiciary, and law enforcement, spread Western business culture, implement the energy sector reform and other important reforms, and enhance energy security.
The President also highlighted that Lithuania went through the difficult way of Euro-Atlantic integration and is always prepared to help Ukraine by sharing experience and providing expert advice.
