President Dalia Grybauskaitė congratulated President Salomei Zurabishvili and the people of Georgia on independence anniversary and wished for the continued success, prosperity, unity, and peace of the country and its citizens.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Georgia.
According to the President, a similar way to independence, shared challenges and Georgia’s fight for freedom that is very well understood by Lithuanians had brought our countries closer. “We trust in determination and choice of the people of Georgia to build a free and independent democratic state”, said the President in her message of congratulations.
The President highlighted that Lithuania’s consistent support and active backing of the people of Lithuania would remain as strong as Georgia continued to aspire to enhance comprehensive relations with the European Union and NATO.
The President expressed hope that the broad and responsible cooperation between Lithuania and Georgia and the opportunities opened up by close dialogue with the countries of the European and transatlantic community would allow Lithuania to collaborate even closer in implementation of reforms and support civil society, national security and prosperity of Georgia. President Grybauskaitė also said she believed that useful projects developed by the people of Lithuania and Georgia in a number of relevant areas would contribute to fostering shared values, ensuring prosperity and independence of the two countries and enhance the exceptional friendship between the states and among people.
