The President extended congratulations to Emperor Naruhito of Japan on his Majesty’s birthday and Japan’s national holiday.
According to the President, relations between Lithuania and Japan are growing and expanding and the two nations are bound by shared values and a common approach to global problems. Increasingly deeper mutual understanding between the people, close intercultural dialogue as well as direct, friendly people-to-people contacts significantly contribute to finding suitable solutions to the political, economic and security challenges that the countries face.
“The number of Japanese tourists coming to Lithuania is increasing each year, new twin-city initiatives are being launched and cultural contacts are expanding. One of the strongest bonds connecting our two nations is the figure of prominent Japanese diplomat, Chiune Sugihara. 2020 has been designated as the Year of Chiune Sugihara in Lithuania to commemorate 80 years of Sugihara-issued “visas for life” and his 120th birth anniversary,” the President said in the message of congratulations.
The President wished the Emperor continued health and happiness, as well as the success and harmony of Japan and its people.
