“Our allies continue paying attention to our region and hearing the Baltic states’ concern regarding the changed security situation – it is demonstrated by the interoperability and ability to cooperate strengthened at exercises Thunder Storm and Saber Strike ,” Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis stressed on June 11 when visiting General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area to observe a dynamic display of the exercises at the Urban Warfare Facility.
DV and Media Day of exercises Thunder Storm 2018 and Saber Strike 2018 was also be attended by Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania Viktoras Pranckietis, members of the Committee on National Security and Defence, Chief of Defence Lt Jonas Vytautas Žukas, representatives of NATO allies , and other guests.
Later the guests viewed a static display of equipment, gear, and weaponry used by the exercise participants.
Saber Strike 2018 is an exercise organised by the United States European Command to enhance interoperability among participating forces while conducting wide spectrum of military operations. The exercise highlights strengthening interaction among land, naval, and air operational forces, and joint training with NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Groups. The exercise will run on June 3-15 in Lithuania and involve up to 6,600 soldiers.
National exercise Thunder Storm in Lithuania will be running on June 1-15. It involves up to 9 thousand Lithuanian military and civilian personnel. Thunder Storm will train the Lithuanian Armed Forces to conduct wide spectrum armed state defence operations both on their own and together with NATO allies.
