The President to attend the Summit for Democracy hosted by Joe Biden

President Gitanas Nausėda will attend the Summit for Democracy at the invitation of President Joe Biden of the United States of America.

“Strengthening and expanding democracy in the neighborhood has been and will continue to be a priority for Lithuania. We have repeatedly demonstrated our commitment to defending democratic values by giving our support to civil society in Belarus and by supporting reforms in Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova. Lithuania has a unique experience of democratic transformation and is ready to share and spread it across the world,” the President said.

According to Gitanas Nausėda, in the current geopolitical context, it is of the utmost importance to focus on upholding democratic values, safeguarding human rights and strengthening free and independent media.

The Summit for Democracy, which will be hosted by the U.S. President, will take place on December 9 and 10. Over 100 world leaders, international organizations, as well as representatives from the non-governmental sector and civil society are expected to attend the Summit. The focus of the Summit will be on three main themes: strengthening democracy and defending against authoritarianism, fighting corruption, and advancing respect for human rights.
