The “Mockava” terminal was opened on the Lithuanian-Polish border. In order to attract private investors, Lazdijai municipality leased its 40 hectares of land for 99 years. It was talking about the investments here for more than 10 years. The owners of the site have been changed over the years, until the two railway branches were built here: Russian and European roads. Then a transit oil terminal has been built. It will allow transferring over 1 million tons of liquid products per year. So far, three stores hold approximately 3 thousand tons of diesel and one thousand tons of gasoline. Oil products from Russia and Belarus reach the terminal via the Russian railroad and then are transported deep into Europe either by road tankers or by European railroad.
“It’s great that “Mockava” terminal has already opened. We were reaching that for more than 10 years. We have a favourable infrastructure, railroads of European standard and Russian railroad as well. We have announced a competition that attracted investors and actually started works of oil transportation. We are grateful to the company for having created new positions because, as we know, the level of unemployment is quite high nowadays in Lazdijai District. Our main objective was to create the largest possible number of job positions in this leased site; therefore we hope that this terminal will expand further and will create new job positions for residents of the Lazdijai district “, after the opening of the terminal said Artūras Margelis, the mayor of Lazdijai.
Terminal of “Mockava” is the first liquid product terminal at the Polish Border Rail Station for the transit of fuel and other chemical products through Lithuania from the East countries to Europa and vice versa. Products shipped from the terminal can reach any EU railway station without reshipment or another terminal. “This is the first and only one terminal of liquid products transfusion in Lithuania, where it is possible to so send and get liquid products via the both railroads, the Russian and European. Terminal of “Mockava” is also the first object to exploit the potential “Rail Baltica” road and the possibility to increase the transit of liquid cargo flows through Lithuania in all possible directions, between East and West and between the South and the North, “said UAB “Mockava Terminalas” director Tadas Augustauskas.
This terminal is fully prepared and capable to send and accept the cargos using the newly built “Rail Baltica” line that connects the Lithuanian railway system with the rail system of the European Union.
